MMS Announces New Information to the Internet Online Ordering System

The Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) announces an addition to the Regional Internet Online Ordering System. The Online Ordering System, which offers customers the ability to build and purchase custom CD’s of selected well log images, will now have a new section where customers can purchase “Fixed CD Sets.” Unlike custom CD’s, in which the customer could choose what files to put on each CD, these new fixed CD sets will offer specific information. There are 43 new CD sets. The new CD sets that are going online include the Seismic Data Release 2001 CD’s, the Seismic Data Release 2002 CD’s, the Paleo CD, and the Production CD.

Before this addition to the Online Ordering System, these fixed CD’s were available to the customers only by calling our Public Information Office, requesting a copy of the CD, and providing for payment arrangement over the phone to one of our Public Information Office staff. The staff would then locate the proper CD and, if one was not available, place a request for multiple copies of the CD, one copy for the customer and the remaining copies for inventory. The customer’s credit card would then be processed for payment and the CD’s would be mailed to the customer.

With this improvement to the Online Ordering System, a customer can now browse the listings of CD sets, select the CD set to order by adding these to the shopping cart, and proceed to check out using an online credit card transaction process. The CD’s are burned automatically and shipped directly to the customer. This new product will improve our service to users of MMS information.

MMS is the federal agency in the U.S. Department of the Interior that manages the nation's oil, natural gas and other mineral resources on the outer continental shelf in federal offshore waters. The agency also collects, accounts for and disburses mineral revenues from federal and Indian leases. These revenues totaled nearly $10 billion in 2001 and more than $120 billion since the agency was created in 1982. Annually, nearly $1 billion from those revenues go into the Land and Water Conservation Fund for the acquisition and development of state and federal park and recreation lands.
