Public Information Data in Western Planning Area in Relation
to Sale 200 |
Minerals Management Service (MMS) publishes
nonproprietary information relating to production, development, and
operations in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) to provide information promoting
hydrocarbon exploration of the offshore. This publication, Recent
Public Information Data in Western Planning Area in Relation to Sale 200, lists
available public data on recently released tracts by identifying the play
and prospect potential of this unleased acreage in the Western Gulf of
Mexico.As of April 1, 2006, there were 373
newly available tracts available for
leasing in Western Gulf Sale 200 that were active for Western Gulf Sale 196 in 2005. There were
60 recent completions on active leases within five miles of 54
of these open tracts. The MMS play associated with the recent completion
has been identified along with other pertinent completion data. The aerial
extent and description of each MMS play in the GOM is available in the MMS
2000 National Assessment and the 1999 Offshore Atlas publications. The
prospective hydrocarbon intervals identified on the recently opened tracts
are not necessarily the only potential exploration targets. Other plays
may exist on the opened tracts.
Nonproprietary well log images associated with recently available wells
and recent completion data can be accessed by clicking on the well symbol
on the map. The well information provided in this publication is just an
example and does not represent all of the well information that MMS has
made available to the public. Additional information, such as complete
suites of well logs in digital format, raster images, or
paleontological
data, on the wells highlighted in this publication is available through
the MMS website and/or the MMS Public Information Office (1-800-200-GULF).
In addition to well data, there are other data available to download via
the MMS' Public Information Website or to order via MMS' Fast Facts.
Additionally, approximately three months prior to each lease sale in
the GOM, MMS publishes the Indicated Hydrocarbon List (IHL),
which
identifies open tracts with wells that contain hydrocarbons. These open
tracts are grouped into leases with expired fields, i.e. Class F; leases
that qualified but never produced, i.e. Class Q; and leases that have
wells with confirmed hydrocarbons but never qualified, i.e. Class C.
Information relating to production and hydrocarbon depth is presented
without regard to hydrocarbon (pay) thickness or volume. The open tracts
on the IHL that were not available for the 2005 Western Gulf sale include
25 field blocks, one Class Q tract (HI A288), and two Class C tracts (AC
200 and GB 303). The IHL is updated with an Addendum approximately one
month prior to each lease sale.
